No matter who you voted for in last week’s 2024 presidential election, you would not be a Raddie if you did not care about the health of your loved ones, or of the food quality available in the United States. A healthy population is a productive one.
Make America Healthy Again
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ran as an independent during the 2024 presidential candidate. A longtime environmental activist, Kennedy launched his “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) campaign with a central focus on improving our nation's public health.
His plan emphasized the root causes of chronic diseases and promoted preventive health measures to improve quality of life, reduce healthcare costs, and create a healthier society overall.
At a time when the U.S. healthcare system grapples with prohibitive costs and increasing rates of preventable diseases, Kennedy’s approach was focused on a holistic framework, tackling health from both individual and systemic levels.
MAHA details
Lifestyle & prevention
A major component of Kennedy's health plan was that the U.S. healthcare system should be preventive, not reactionary. He criticized the current healthcare system for focusing more on treating illness rather than preventing it, which leads to costly treatments and unsustainable practices.
He proposed we invest more in regular physical activity, mental health support, nutritional education and routine health screenings as the foundation for long-term public health.
He believed that by empowering individuals to take control of their health, our nation could alleviate the strain on its healthcare resources, while improving the well-being of its citizens.
Clean food choices
Another core aspect of Kennedy's MAHA plan was to increase access to reasonably priced, local and organic produce, as well as encourage government support for regenerative farming practices to provide healthier food options.
He believed that diet and nutrition should not just be a personal choice but that it should be a policy issue to counteract decades of industrial food processing and unhealthy food marketing.
He further recognized that the American diet based on the Food Pyramid is high in processed foods and low in essential nutrients, leading to increased rates of obesity, diabetes, and other chronic conditions, something I have also written about.
Toxins and pollution
MAHA also addressed reducing environmental toxins. Kennedy has been vocal about the harmful effects of pollution and chemical exposure on public health, attributing many chronic conditions to prolonged exposure to toxins.
He proposed stricter regulations on pollutants, advocating for a reduction in industrial emissions, pesticide use, and chemicals that compromise immune and respiratory health.
His emphasis on clean air and water was aimed to reduce the burden of environmentally linked diseases, such as asthma and cancer, to further support healthier communities across the U.S.
Mental health
Kennedy recognized mental health as key to overall wellness. He advocated for expanding access to mental health services, especially in underserved communities where resources are scarce.
His goal was to destigmatize mental health issues and ensure that all Americans have access to affordable mental health care.
His vision for a healthier America included creating a culture that values mental wellness alongside physical health to promote a holistic approach to well-being.
Ambitious
MAHA is an ambitious vision for a healthier, more resilient America. By addressing diet, environmental health, preventive care, and mental wellness, Kennedy's approach calls for sweeping reform that aims to reduce the incidence of chronic diseases and improve quality of life for Americans.
His vision underscores the belief that health is interconnected with environmental, economic, and social policies, and that achieving a healthy society requires a commitment to addressing these issues in tandem.
Kennedy’s MAHA plan invites a shift in national priorities, one where health and wellness take center stage in shaping the future of America.
I agree that our nation’s health should be prioritized. We have been sick, tired, and inflamed far too long. Time will tell if Kennedy is able to enact this kind of change while also reducing government regulation and control.
Bipartisanship
Kennedy's approach resonated with a bipartisan audience that was disillusioned by rising healthcare costs and chronic health issues.
He wants to:
Enact legislative changes that support transparency in healthcare regulations.
Improve nutrition guidelines and create access to the best quality foods.
Expand Health Savings Accounts for better individual healthcare management.
Address the chronic disease epidemic in America by reforming health policies.
Combat corporate influence over federal health agencies.
Reduce chronic diseases by tackling conflicts of interest in regulatory bodies like the FDA and CDC, which he says are unduly influenced by pharmaceutical funding.
Post-Election
Kennedy is working tirelessly during the transition period between administrations. A fellow Raddie shared the following with me, and I thought you would appreciate it, too.

A recent article in Organic Lifestyle Magazine on how regenerative organic farmer Joel Salatin of PolyFace Farms has accepted a USDA position in the new administration.
Who is Joel Salatin?
I encourage you to watch Joe Rogan’s conversation with Salatin from 2020 so that you can see why he is an excellent choice for the USDA position.

Peace out and make it a healthy Friday Eve.
Is it bad that the thing I most look forward to finally being able to get good raw milk cheeses?
Great article Terry. Fingers crossed
